From lively bazaars and sacred courtyards to ancient Buddhist heritage and mountain landscapes, each place reveals another chapter of the country’s story. Guided by Jalal and travelling with just 8–12 guests, we make time for the encounters between the landmarks: a conversation over tea, a glimpse of daily life, a welcome that stays with you. 27 March–3 April · 8 days · 8–12 guests · €1,600 per person Travel Through the Whole Story with Ariana Expeditions.
Your journey begins in Kabul, where Jalal welcomes you at the airport. Settle into your hotel and, if arrival times allow, take a first look at the capital—a city whose stories unfold in its streets, gardens and conversations.
Drive north to Mazar-e-Sharif, where the blue tiles of the celebrated shrine draw us into the city’s spiritual heart. Explore the surrounding streets, making time for daily life beyond the courtyard.
Travel to ancient Balkh, once a meeting place for merchants, scholars and ideas. Visit Haji Piyada Mosque and places associated with Rabia Balkhi and Rumi, tracing the poetry and history woven into this landscape. Return to Mazar for the night.
Leave Mazar and journey to Samangan, where the rock-cut stupa of Takht-e-Rostam recalls Afghanistan’s Buddhist past. Continue towards Bamyan through changing landscapes, with an overnight stop along the route if needed.
Arrive in Bamyan and spend the afternoon discovering its valley and monumental Buddha niches. The empty spaces in the cliffs invite us to consider the generations of travellers, pilgrims and communities who have shaped this place.
Spend another morning exploring Bamyan, taking time for its landscapes and everyday encounters before returning by road to Kabul.
Explore the capital through the calm of Babur’s Gardens and the movement of its old-city bazaars. Between historic landmarks, we pause for the smaller details: a shopkeeper’s welcome, bread fresh from the oven, a conversation over tea.
Transfer to the airport for your departure, carrying home the places you have seen and the people who gave them meaning.
